NM

NEAR MINT

A nearly perfect record. The record should show no obvious signs of wear. A record or sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.

NM- / VG++

NEAR MINT MINUS

A record that should play mint but has a few slightly visible marks. It will have the luster of a NM record. There may be some superficial scuffs or very light hairlines that shouldn't be audible. NM- covers  fit somewhere in between VG+ and NM.

VG+

VERY GOOD PLUS

A Very Good Plus record will show signs that it was played and  handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect play. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are permitted. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. Picture sleeves and LP covers may have slight signs of wear. There may be a cut corner or punch hole indicating it was taken out of print.

VG

VERY GOOD

Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident in soft passages and during a songs intro and fade, but will not overpower the music. Groove wear may be noticeable, as will light scratches. Some may be deep enough to feel with a fingernail that will affect the sound. Labels may have writing, stickers, tape or their residue. The same may be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, they shouldn't have all of these issues at the same time, only two or three of them.

G, G+

GOOD, GOOD +

Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus will play though without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise, scratches and visible groove wear. A cover or sleeve will have seam splits. Tape, writing, ring wear or other issues will start to overwhelm the object. Good enough until an upgrade comes along.
