redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and exceedingly rare LP from Erato (STE 50061, French pressing, green/white label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features the Quintette Marie Claire Jamet in 20th Century works for harp and chamber ensemble, an LP boasting some of the finest French players of the day in breathtakingly fine performances.
The players are as follows:
Marie-Claire Jamet, harp
Christian Lardé, flute
Guy Deplus, clarinet
Pépito Sanchez, first violin
Jacques Dejean, second violin
Colette Lequien, viola
Pierre Degenne, cello
The exact contents are as follows:
Maurice Ravel: Introduction et allegro for harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet
Florent Schmitt: Suite en Rocaille Op. 84 for harp, flute, violin, viola, and cello
Albert Roussel: Sérénade Op. 30 for harp, flute, violin, viola, and cello
These recordings were made at the Studio Barclay, Paris, on 15 October 1960 and sound superb here.
Incidentally, there are excellent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by conductor Jean-François Paillard, as well as a brief but eloquent introduction by Pierre Jamet. The striking cover design was executed by Pierre Maurin.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears virtually as new – overall, a truly lovely collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
