Description
As with Rainbow Theatre’s first LP, Fantasy of Horses was recorded by what could almost be called a small orchestra—in this case a 14-piece band. And again, they make generous use of the Mellotron (right next to classical music instruments like violin, viola, oboe, trumpet, etc.) The album mixes jazz, classical, and progressive rock in a way all its own. One reviewer noted “The original album had three pieces on its first side, and an extended suite, the 22-minute title track, took up all of side two. But it was a short album, at under 40 minutes long. The opening track, "Rebecca," opens with a burst of pure Mellotron, signaling what is to come. It's followed by "Dancer," a suite broken up into five separately titled tracks which segue into each other without pause. "Caption for the City Night Life" closes out side one, and offers a darker and more powerful music than that which preceded it. "Fantasy of Horses" has seven separately titled tracks, and tells a story which can be glimpsed through those titles. The use of the horns is reminiscent of their use on King Crimson's Lizard, and the singing (by organist Keith Hoban) is very much like that of Crimson lyricist Pete Sinfield on his solo album, Still.” Just to be clear, both Rainbow Theatre albums also include all the normal rock instruments like guitar, organ, bass, and drums.
Released in Australia on the always collectible Clear Light of Jupiter label in 1976, this comes in a textured cover, which is in M--- condition. The record is also in M--- condition. The U.S. Post Office has just raised the postage rates...again. In the U.S., postage would be about $4.77 for one LP sent by Media Mail. Package insured upon request. Winners outside of the U.S. will be notified of postal fees, but an approximate cost for one LP to many countries is $16.20 by airmail (but Canada and Mexico will be less than this for most single LP packages). If you bid on and win more than one item, you WILL save on postage! Note: I do not gouge on postage and packaging costs. Record will be carefully packaged in a strong, oversized LP mailer.
