“Saturday Night Swing Session” 16 Inch Radio Transcription Discs
One Complete 55 Minute Radio Program On These Four, 16 Inch, Black Lacquer Acetate, 33 1/3 RPM Discs. These Discs Were Recorded by The National Broadcasting Company NBC For Reference Purposes Only And Not Available To The General Public, Very Rare!
This is an outstanding live jazz radio broadcast hosted by Art Ford and originally broadcast on WNEW, New York. As stated in the opening, it features live, informal, ad-lib jazz without rehearsal
This group is identified as “The Cream Of The Crop” of performers from the last 10 weeks of performances, who were brought together for this program:
Buddy Rich - drums
Fats Navarro – trumpet (introduced as a brand new bebop trumpeter)
Chubby Jackson – bass
Ralph Burns – Piano
Charlie Ventura – tenor sax
Bill Harris – trombone
Allen Eager – tenor sax

Songs 4 and 5 are by pianist Lennie Tristano, who is introduced as someone who was discovered last summer, in his New York debut. Lennie Tristano plays two unidentified songs and Buddy Rich on drums and Chubby Jackson on bass are announced, but may not play on track 4
6. “Sweet Georgia Brown” Buddy Rich, Fats Navarro, Chubby Jackson, Ralph Burns, Charlie Ventura, Bill Harris, Allen Eager. Great drum solo by Buddy Rich
7. Fats Navarro & The House Band play an unidentified song
8. “Blues In B Flat” with vocal by Babs Gonzalez, trumpet by Fats Navarro. Babs Gonzalez is introduced “there’s a young man outside from a noted American choral society called ‘Three Bips And A Bop’, Babs Gonzalez, who wants to come out here and jive along”
9. is an unidentified song by Lennie Tristano who is joined by the ensemble, this song is incomplete as it is cut off by the closing announcement
Songs include great introductions by Art Ford and interaction with the band. At one point, Art Ford asks Buddy Rich “Hey Buddy, Where’s The Blonde This Week?”
The recording time on the discs is about 65 minutes as there is some overlap on the discs, so none of the material is lost and all of the songs and commentary are complete
It is mentioned that the show is being recorded for our troops overseas
Discs are in Excellent or better condition with Excellent or better sound, Beautiful Discs with Beautiful Sound
