Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. ORIGINAL 1970 RARE first issue on the tiny INFINITY INC label ... one of Sun Ra's most fiercely desired album, the moods and execution within set the tone in transcending the listeners head to a decidedly cool 'out there' place.
THE NIGHT OF THE PURPLE MOON, recorded in 1970, features Sun Ra playing two electronic keyboards that were
popular with psychedelic bands: the Rocksichord and the Minimoog.
Night of the Purple Moon is tranquil, imaginative and unusually playful for 1970 Sun Ra. Across several solo keyboard pieces, his sense of swing remains constant even as his playing becomes more ornamental, and at times there are pop leanings that heighten the album's accessible beauty. Ra fronts a quartet, playing a mini Moog and Rocksichord, along with Stafford James on electric bass, Danny Davis on alto, clarinet, flute and bongos, and John Gilmore on drums. With a warbled keyboard tone, Ra’s playing here is heroic, never allowing wild passages to undermine his sense of style. It is much more intimate and free of the excess found on his wilder albums (it was released around the same time as Atlantis) but still retains his music’s mystical quality.
"Narrative" and "Outside the Time Zone" are both evocative passages, with Ra gracefully flying through phrases, playing this unnatural sounding piano with absolute fluidity. A controversial figure in jazz, many were reluctant to accept him during his day. Among those that did praise him included Thelonoious Monk: "Yeah, but it swings!" Like Monk, his skill and imagination allows him to string together incredibly violent passages and delicate ones with absolute precision. "All of Everything," the majestic slow groove, with that warped sense of timing and the playing so focused. Ra may be known for his free jazz freakouts, for his brand of cosmic chaos, but those who attention to his more minimal recordings will notice how seriously he takes his playing, and the imagery/mythology that his music is meant to evoke. There is no doubt that some of Ra's outrageous attitudes and productions can produce skepticism, if not outright laughter from unsuspecting listeners. But rarely do you have the same mockery directed towards albums like "Landiquity," or "The Futuristic Sounds Of.." You begin to take him seriously.
If the Pyramid and the Sphinx on the cover are any indication, the cumulative effect of some of these tracks is a feeling of cosmic significance, of royal nobility. Or something like that. The sense of magnitude is felt in both the tone and scope of the album, while the instrumentation remains relatively sparse, beyond the addition of winds on the later half. One thing we cannot stress enough is how amazing and satisfying his keyboard sounds here. It sounds like alien technology, played by an ancient pharaoh, with all the swing of "cool" grooved music. Particularly as a point of entry for the uninitiated, it is HIGHLY worth adding to any serious collection!

CONDITION: The cover is rated: VG++ touh of shelf wear only, well handled over the past 46 years, has NO problems for the need to upgrade, obviously a rare collection copy...
The vinyl is rated: near "EX" (excellent) played carefully over the many years, few visual top surface fingernail type thin scuffs that do nothing, so plays with ecellent audio - no problems and :::both INFINITY labels are clean
