Description

Complete 5-record set of "Smoky Mountain Ballads," collected in the field by John A Lomax, the pioneering musicologist, and folklorist who was the first person to try to preserve American folk music in the 1930s. He was the father of Alan Lomax, who also became a distinguished collector of folk music.

These are rare examples of early “Old Timey” Appalachian bluegrass music. (Fans of Oh Brother, Where Art Thou” take note!)

These are 10" 78rpm records with original album cover from the late 30's or early 40's 

This is Victor Album no. P-79, with record numbers 27493 – 27497.

Includes liner notes written by Lomax.
