Bill Harty presents George Van Eps Musicale #1 "A Ducky Dish" b/w Bill Harty presents Jim Taft Musicale #2 "Varsity Drag" - Vocalion 4183 

Original 10" 78rpm record from 1938 in excellent E- condition! Very scarce, and not reissued to my knowledge, this appears to be George Van Eps' first feature recording under his name. You can listen to samples from both sides on the Ecommerce player below.

Recorded in Los Angeles on March 15, 1938 with George Thow (trumpet), Joe Yukl (trombone), Sal Legare (clarinet), Pete Logan (alto sax), Jack Stacy or Jack Chaney (tenor sax), Bobby Van Eps (piano), Jim Taft (bass), Bill Harty (drums) and George on guitar. A Ducky Dish is chamber jazz style. George gets a few two and four bar breaks, as do the others. Van Eps also has a solo break at the end of the B side, Varsity Drag. There were four titles done at this session, these two plus Squattin' At The Grotto, and Lock It Up, which were later issued on Columbia 35694 in 1940.

I use the VJM grading system for 78's and have many years of experience grading, packing and shipping 78's safely. Record will be sandwiched between 3 layers of new heavy corrugated cardboard, then wrapped several times with large bubble wrap and packed in a new 12x12x4 box for safe shipping.
