THE BEATLES WITH TONY SHERIDAN AND GUESTS (MGM 4215 mono issue, 1964): Clean VG cover, VG disc (plays VG/VG+) with clean labels.
This rare Beatles record is easily worth $50-$75; the disc is a VG with a delicate lattice of surface scratches from stacking it with other LPs on an old record changer back in the dark ages of the '60s. It looks terrible, but they're shallow marks; play-gradeds a solid VG/VG+. It's the rarer version with BMI credit for My Bonnie and The Saints.
The cover is clean of writing and major problems.
There is a slight area of sticker residue from a previously removed price tag. Four small spots where the seams have had tape applied.

In 1964, U.S. record labels were cashing in on Beatlemania. Only VJ and Capitol had rights to their latest recordings; everybody else had to make do. This led to an avalanche of groups like The Bottles, The Bootles, The Beagles, The Bugs, The Bungholes, The American Beatles, The American Bootles, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
MGM had rights to 4 songs, three of which had our Heroes backing Tony Sheridan in Hamburg, so they reissued them as 45s to decent sales. But how to stretch 4 songs into an LP? They simply added a couple of Sheridan recordings that didn't have The Beatles on them, and filled the rest with 6 less than horrible tranquilizers by "The Titans", originally recorded to give wannabe-hipster adults something tame to twist to. Absolute bottom-of-the-barrel crapola royale.
The liner notes describe Tony Sheridan's contributions as "a program of favorites that just cannot be described". Well, John Lennon described 'em; when a 1964 interviewer asked him about the My Bonnie MGM single then in release, he called it "terrible!" (this was the very same recording that "The Beat Brothers" had been so excited about in '61, because they were the first Liverpool rock band to have any kind of record). The cuts with The Beatles are the best on this LP; the rest go from substandard to subhuman.
All glowing revues of the musical integrity aside, count this as a must for every Beatles collection!
