Description

Up for auction is a very early Rockabilly 45 that is incredibly hard to find due to its rarity. Most rockabilly collectors DO NOT have it in their collection. It does not look up in any price guide.

The Broughams (with Bob) : "Baby You Just Wait" b/w "Jeannie" on PENTAGON records in PA, circa 1957. Serial #45-6935/45-6934, with "DENT 45-6935 9264 C" etched in the dead wax. Guaranteed original, not a reproduction.

A little history about this 45: In 11th grade, a group of teenagers attending the same Pennsylvania prep school formed a rockabilly group after hearing the sounds of Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, and Johnny Burnette. They recorded this single IN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL STUDIO and sent $100 to Pentagon Records for 300 copies to be pressed. These kids adopted the band name The Broughams. Most copies were sold to friends and were promptly discarded because of the poor sound quality and sub-par vinyl.  No more than a handful survived. Normally, this sort of thing happened all of the time -- that's how rare records were made. But the story doesn't end here.

One year later, the Broughams convince a label in Boston, Indigo records, to put out the same single with a better recording. Indigo agrees but changes the band name to THE SPIRALS. The record execs felt that "The Broughams" was not cool enough. That cut, "Baby You Just Wait", by the Spirals was comped on the RAGING TEENS Vol. 2 CD on Norton Records. If you check "Baby You Just Wait" by the Spirals on Indigo, it books for $300-$600 in the 2004 Rockin Records guide.

"Baby You Just Wait" is an upbeat rockabilly tune with uncommonly good guitar.

"Jeannie" is a teen love tune.

This 45 that you are getting, by the Broughams, predates the Spirals 45 and is much more rare. If you own the Spirals 45, rest assured that these tracks were done a year earlier and have a slower tempo. The band photo is of The Spirals / The Broughams in their heyday. I acquired the last 3 copies of this 45 from the guitarist of the band himself. The first two have sold for about $500 each (both to Europe), and this is the last known copy to exist. This track (by the Broughams) has not been comped commercially at all, so I will be posting an mp3 sample of Side A in the coming days.

Condition:

Side A (Baby You Just Wait): M- / NM

Side B (Jeannie): NM

Labels: NM

Very clean stock copy of this title. I can just about guarantee that this 45 will not again see the light of day, and if you it does, it won't be in half as nice condition as this. With half a century gone by, the rest of the copies have certainly disappeared. Please bid accordingly.

No reserve, and shipping worldwide is free. Money orders in US dollars only. Thank you and good luck!
