PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. UNIPACK GATEFOLD COVER ... VERY FIRST 1969 PRINTING of a RARE and sought after album ... the second album by the late, great TOWNES VAN ZANDT ...a talented singer/song writer who justly deserves the highest praises bestowed upon him... and there's good reason ::::
Our Mother The Mountain is a bona fide classic. A fully realized, flawless masterpiece from an artist who, in a single bound, forced the cognoscenti to mention his name in the same breath as the elite of the singer-songwriter craft. That he could neither sustain the quality and impetus of this album nor garner the same level of commercial support as some of his peers is something of a tragedy and definitely a case of outrageous unfairness.
Our Mother The Mountain was only released the year after For The Sake Of The Song but, in terms of style, there is a world of difference. Gone are the fancy trimmings, the ostentatious arrangements, the flowery backing singers. In their place comes an unobtrusive backing band, a man, his guitar and a stack of the best songs this side of an early Bob Dylan album. Our Mother The Mountain is so stripped back that even "Tecumseh Valley", which first appeared on For The Sake Of The Song, is reborn here as simply "Tecumseh". When even song titles are being subjected to cuts you know someone's serious about toning things down! Mind you, that song, which was one of the highlights of the previous album, has grown a couple of verses and is all the better for it.
Lyrically Van Zandt swings between Dylan and Hank Williams – a strange mix maybe but never an awkward one. Once again the album is populated by a group of misfits, outsiders, losers and dropouts – but this time there's a more pronounced link to love. Love lost, love unrequited, broken hearts, love regretted, love desired – Our Mother The Mountain is a very emotional album.
It begins conventionally enough – both "Be Here To Love Me" and "Kathleen" are beautifully constructed and sung but they give no hint of the fireworks to come. "She Came And She Touched Me" is a tremendous mixture of visual imagery, stunning wordplay and emotional depth. Very rarely do all those elements come together without one dominating the other, but this is one of those exceptions. It's followed by "Like A Summer Thursday" which, for some reason reminds of Lee Hazlewood's "Some Velvet Morning". Both have that weird, trippy out-thereness that's difficult to define.
Without going into the pros and cons (not that there are any of those) of every track, suffice it to say Our Mother The Mountain never lets up and never disappoints. Its love of natural imagery, its love of life, its love of love is self-evident. Even though told in a mournful, downbeat and weary lind of way you never feel that Van Zandt has given up. Our Mother The Mountain is an album that recognises pain and loss but offers hope and salvation. It's a wonderful album, one that the listener potentially will keep coming back to time and time again.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: VG++.the unipack gatefold is oh-so-hard to find in any condition, but especially even THIS clean. There is only signs of previous use and, there are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ... VERY collection worthy ...
The vinyl: Rated: M- extremely well cared for over the past 48 years ...reflects some far out sounds from the underground, potentially the best copy around... you won't need an up-grade ...both POPPY labels are clean
