RARE RARE RARE ...Very early & Rare Lohengrin recording. June 26 1900. Berliner - Carlos Caffetto
This extremely rare Berliner recording from June 26 1900 of the Grand Tenor Aria from Lohengrin. Recorded in Milan. Recorded by Fred Gaisberg. Sung in Italian by the tenor Carlo Caffetto with piano. It is a very early example of a Berliner using the Eldridge Johnson wax recording system, which was licensed to Berliner in the spring of 1900.
This record is 123 years old. It is in good plus condition for its age. You rarely see these recordings, as they were made in very limited quantities and after more than a century their numbers are very small. This record plays all the way through, no skips, no hung grooves, no issues like that. For its age quite a remarkable recording. It requires a larger needle than what I have. But as you listen it is a powerful and clear recording. Made in Milan ...
