RCA Living Stereo LSC 2313. Venice. Verdi: La Traviata, Preludes to Acts I and III / Rossini: Semiramide Overture / Offenbach: Tales of Hoffmann Barcarolle / Rossini: L'Italiana in Algeri Overture / Ponchielli: La Gioconda Dance of the Hours. Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden conducted by Georg Solti. Stereo, 1959. MATRIX STAMPER ENDING WITH –1S/-1S. Shaded dog label. Deluxe album design, an extra-heavy gatefold cardboard sleeve with a die-cut "window grating" on the cover showing a view of the first page of the bound-in 7-page booklet containing an essay on Venice and loads of full-color photos. A rare album – one of rarest shaded dog classical titles!

“RCA Living Stereo" recordings - mostly classical, but also a handful of pop and easy listening titles - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. On mint or near mint copies , quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus has hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive tweeter to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. This is the music for the ears, heart, soul, mind and guts alike.

THIS IS A NO-RESERVE AUCTION!

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+(+) . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

We could not "feel" these abrasions with our fingertip, and we suspect that they are NOT audible.

(b)            The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)             The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)            Stereo pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(e)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (this is the original die-cut cover!)

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The gatefold cover has partially split seams on 1 out of 4 "legs" of the cover (about 6 inches / 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters).

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam and spine (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3.

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent

-         Minor yellowing noted on the INSIDE gatefold

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-         No writing

-         No stamps

-         No peel-off marks

-         No stains

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
