R.E.M. Out Of Time 12-Inch Vinyl LP Promo Copy + Press Kit With: Band Bio & Two photos

Promo pressings are generally made prior to those sold in record stores so that they can be shipped out to reviewers in advance of the record's release to get reviews in publications by the street date. This album set was sent to me for just that reason, but I never played it because I had received the CD version of the album a few days earlier. 

The press kit is the original one I received with the vinyl release, four pages (three front and back, one front) with one photo of the four-piece band shot by Anton Corbijn and one photo shot by Frank Ockenfels.

The spine of the album cover has a slight tear in in it the center.

Vinyl is beautiful and shiny new!

DMM in the runout groove on both sides indicates this is a DIRECT METAL MASTERING pressing.

There is a gold promo stamp on the front cover.

ENVIRONMENT: This item has been stored in a smoke-free and pet-free home under climate-controlled conditions since I first purchased or received it.

Before Nirvana's NEVERMIND closed out the year with the unexpected commercial triumph of grunge rock, R.E.M.'s OUT OF TIME was the sound of alternative music circa 1991. The smash singles "Losing My Religion"--perhaps the only Top Five US single ever to feature the mandolin as its lead instrument--and "Shiny Happy People" were the commercial face of the album. Elsewhere, however, R.E.M. makes a point of moving away from expectations, resulting in intriguing experiments like the surprisingly funky "Radio Song" (featuring rapper KRS-One), the spoken-word ambient chill-out "Belong," and the self-explanatory "Country Feedback." Interestingly, the songs most immediately identifiable as "R.E.M. songs," the jangly rockers "Texarkana" and "Near Wild Heaven," are both sung by bassist Mike Mills. Though it was quickly overshadowed by AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE during the following year, OUT OF TIME remains a fascinating portrait of R.E.M. at a pivotal point in the group's career.
