COVERS are all super-clean; crisp and straight edged with sharp corners. Minor differences above and below
EX grade from extremely minimal handling.

All covers are blank white stock covers with stamped date of transcription and matrix number stamped in blue.
Backs are totally blank.

VINYL is immaculate virgin vinyl (translucent, when held against light.) throughout. No scuffs, hairlines or marks
of any kind to the gorgeous playing surfaces.

LABELS are all printed "RTI Record Technology Incorporated - TEST PRESSING" on side ONE. second side label
of each disc is blank. The side 2 label for "FLOWERS" shows faint (ghost) red ink impression from another label.
Labels are otherwise pristine -no spindle marks, prints or soil. No sign of handling.

All 7 LPs are in anti-static rice paper sleeves.

Incredible, super-clear, ultra-wide and very full stereo sound that rivals the MFSL Box set from 1984 for dynamics, fidelity and presence.

These pressings are all stamped Aug. 3rd -or- 17th, 1994. i have searched all over the internet for references to these recordings but have come up blank.

Whether these are Abkco or Rolling Stones Records or Virgin Records test pressings, I cannot determine yet. I will call RTI on the telephone tomorrow (Monday, July 29) and get the real lowdown. MEANWHILE... IF someone BIDS before that (I REALLY wish you'd wait till I have that info up), I will ADD my findings at BOTTOM of listing.

These all conform, in matrix number and running order to USA pressings released on ABKCO, though the dates are not correct.

UPDATE Monday, July 30th:

These Test Pressings are indeed done for ABKCO.

I just talked with a gentleman at RTI, who was working there back in 1994 and is still with RTI. He explains that ABKCO, who had been issuing Rolling Stones Records since 1975, had been quite unhappy with the flat, lifeless pressings made at the plant they had been using for years back east and in 1994 they brought their Rolling Stones catalog to RTI; shipping all plates, mastering materials and metal parts to the RTI plant.

These test pressings were made from the original masters. They were pressed to present to Abkco the high level of quality that RTI could achieve. These pressings were NOT made for any established commercial release at that time.

ABKCO were reportedly extremely impressed with what RTI could produce, based on the 1994 test pressings and never left RTI, who still hold the plates and pressing contracts for Rolling Stones vinyl in USA. Eventually (1996) Abkco began issuing a new catalog of Virgin Vinyl pressings pressed at RTI. By that time, they were tinkering with the material and those later, commercial releases were sent out in "remastered" form.

These earlier, 1994, Test Pressings ...which would also include 5 other titles that I don't have... apparently are the only way to hear the original masters on 100%Virgin Vinyl (except for the MFSL box set, from 1984). By many accounts these initial RTI pressings were superior to the Mobile Fidelity pressings, that apparently have some technical issues; not rating among their better issues.

I certainly would like to have included this info in the main description; but could NOT, since, despite my request above, somebody made that impossible by bidding ahead anyway. Hopefully you will find it, way down here.
