Description
This is what I believe to be only the third ever documented copy of this Rolling Stones super-rarity; an original 1969 UK Decca 'Let It Bleed' LP with both unboxed and boxed labels - as you can see from the first photo, side 1 has the unboxed Decca logo, while side 2 is boxed. As well as being incredibly rare, this LP represents a wonderful snapshot of a brief moment in time - the very short period when the Decca factory was making the transition from the unboxed label designs of the 1960s to the boxed labels of the 1970s, and both designs were being used in production. Of course, the different designs were not intended to be used on the same record, but there seem to be a handful of LPs - like this one - where that mistake was made; according to the fantastic 'Stones on Decca' site put together by the Stones Vikings group, only two other copies have surfaced prior to this one. The sleeve has the simple 'printed in England' text, and is in VG+ condition, with no major problems; there's some laminate lift at the spine edge, some light creases, and some discolouration to the rear, but no writing or tears; the 'free poster' sticker has been removed, and the poster itself is also absent. The inner sleeve is the uncensored version with the London Bach choir credit, and is also in VG+ condition; unsplit and with just light creasing, but with a bit of light staining at the edges. The disc is VG+; very clean and shiny but with light surface marks and scuffs. It's a typical high quality '60s Decca pressing, and for the most part sounds fantastic - clear, loud and undistorted - but there is a single skip about 30 seconds into 'Gimmie Shelter'; I really can't see what's causing this, and it's possible that a bit more weight on the stylus would stop this happening. Aside from that, there's some background crackle at the beginning of 'Love In Vain' and in one or two of the other quieter passages, but no other real problems.
