Pieced together from outtakes and much-laboured-over songs, Sticky Fingers manages to have a loose, ramshackle ambience that belies both its origins and the dark undercurrents of the songs.
It's a weary, drug-laden album -- well over half the songs explicitly mention drug use, while the others merely allude to it -- that never fades away, but it barely keeps afloat.
Apart from the classic opener, "Brown Sugar", the long workout "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and the mean-spirited "Bitch," Sticky Fingers is a slow, bluesy affair, with a few country touches thrown in for good measure.
The laid-back tone of the album gives ample room for new lead guitarist Mick Taylor to stretch out, particularly on the extended coda of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking." But the key to the album isn't the instrumental interplay -- although that is terrific -- it's the utter weariness of the songs.
"Wild Horses" is their first non-ironic stab at a country song, and it is a beautiful, heart-tugging masterpiece.
Similarly, "I Got the Blues" is a ravished, late-night classic that ranks among their very best blues.
"Sister Morphine" is a horrifying overdose tale, and "Moonlight Mile," with Paul Buckmaster's grandiose strings, is a perfect closure: sad, yearning, drug-addled, and beautiful.
With its offhand mixture of decadence, roots music, and outright malevolence, Sticky Fingers not only set the tone for the rest of the decade for the Stones but in hindsight reveals itself as one of their finest records.

Track Listing:
Side 1: Brown Sugar (3:50) / Sway (3:45) / Wild Horses (5:41) / Can't You Hear Me Knocking (7:17) / You Gotta Move (2:32)
Side 2: Bitch (3:42) / I Got The Blues (4:00) / Sister Morphine (5:34) / Dead Flowers (4:05) / Moonlight Mile (5:56)

LABELS: Clean, bright and fresh labels (with the first issue "A PROMOTONE N.V. RECORD' credit). Only light spindle wear - EXCELLENT+
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen. There are some superficial hairlines/marks (nothing major) including two circular marks - these however, have no audio consequence at all - the playback is superb - visually EXCELLENT
VINYL Audio: Crystal clear, sharp, rich, deep and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume there are no major audio issues of note - no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no clicks/pops and barely any surface noise (just a touch on the run-ins and on some (not all) of the quieter sections - but saying that the quiet introductions and passages in ‘Wild Horses’, ‘You Gotta Move’, ‘I Got The Blues’, ‘Sister Morphine’ and ‘Moonlight Mile’ all play beautifully. The sound quality throughout is incredibly impressive - even though it's a somewhat rough and raw mix (which gives the record it's ramshackled 'charm') - and there is no discernible groove-wear and no distortion. Critically graded EXCELLENT (+) for audio - this is a very nice playing copy of a superb LP
SLEEVE: The original zip cover is fully functional and is clean, sharp and fresh with practically no wear to the edges or spine - where all text is clear and bold. The whole sleeve is very flat and in great shape. There is a touch of indentation at the bottom area of the zip (please see close-up photo) otherwise, a very fine example - EXCELLENT
INSERT: The insert (UK printed) is clean, fresh and unmarked and in beautiful condition - NEAR MINT
