ALBUM PLAYED FOR AUDIO GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! – VERY GOOD to VERY GOOD PLUS sound quality throughout!

THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST is a complex and varied collection of music, with many parts of the recording having little instrumentation. It is also a  famously very sensitive piece of vinyl, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like ‘SING THIS ALL TOGETHER’, or ‘CITADEL’.   

This is a great mono copy, that has a few single beat skips and some background noise, but in my opinion this does not interfere with the pleasure of this piece of first pressed vinyl. It sounds brilliant, amazing sound separation and clarity!

Very powerful, rich and detailed mono sound with massive dynamics and unique mix and production. I am sure that most listeners will love this rare copy.

In my opinion this album has to be one of the very rarest of the 60's. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this great record. There is some light background static in quiet areas, and occasional background crackle, but it is light. I did notice some light repeat clicks at the start of ‘Rainbow’, but again they were light.  The sound on '1000 Light Years' blasts out with amazing power and clarity.  I did notice two single beat skips at the start of "Sing Together' and two more later in the album , but they were so slight, and did not distract from the music. I have heard later copies that look immaculate that have much duller blurred sound.

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, trumpets and vocals, which come through with tremendous power. As is the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear.

A great all round example of this great  vinyl

  staggering first Mono mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact.    

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING - GOOD 

A nice piece of EXTREMELY THICK AND HEAVY vinyl. It does show visual wear and has some noticeable scratches and surface scuffs.

VINYL SOUND - Please Note:

Top quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.        

THE COVER – VERY GOOD PLUS

A great example of this rare sleeve, the front and back have a great glossy sheen, bright in colour with intact laminate. There is no laminate creasing on the spine, the spine text is totally intact. Light corner wear only, the spine still has a great shape.

The Inner gatefold is also in brilliant condition, largely unmarked with really bright colouring.

The opening edges are very square and largely un frayed.  The back cover is nice and clean, with NO ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers. 

A great example. All round, this is a really nice cover!!!      

THE LABELS -  EXCELLENT  CONDITION

Famous and very Rare UNBOXED ‘GROOVED’ DECCA labels are in wonderful Condition, no marks or writing, light spindle wear only.

THE INNER

EXCELLENT condition, NO tears, one tiny seem split only, and very little wear at the top. Crisp and Clean, - a nice example.    So rare to find an original red inner. There is a small inscription, as seen in the image.

The record will of course come in a replacement plain poly lined 'Patents Pending' inner.

RARITY

GROOVED MONO DECCA PRESS copies of Satanic Majesties are extremely scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. The album sound range is so delicate it is almost impossible to find original clear sound vinyls. Any FIRST PRESS example is very rare.

The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce. This album is very unforgiving with some very complex sounds, and few survive that will play distortion-free – and this copy comes very close.

MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
