I have been collecting records for decades and the time has come for some of them to find a new home. Most will be in excellent condition, some have been in my family for years and remain unplayed. I will grade them all fairly and listen to them before listing.

Up for auction here is the second album by Rory Gallagher . Released in the Uk in 1971 on Polydor records?– catalogue number 2383 076. This is a first Uk pressing and is in absolutely superb condition throughout, a stunning copy. It is still in its original cellophane !!

The vinyl is visually in near mint condition. I am always reluctant to grade this high for a record that is 50 years old but it is simply that good . I cannot imagine there are many copies around in this condition . I have listened to the entire lp at high volume and it is no surprise that the audio is also incredible . The record plays through very nicely without any skips or jumps. There is some very light background crackle which you expect and a couple of very barely audible clicks during Should’ve Learnt My Lesson and a couple at the end of Out of my Mind but these do not distract and overall it was a stunning listen and I would grade the audio as a very strong Excellent+. A really brilliant listen.

The Labels are also in stunning condition with a couple of very light barely visible spindle marks .I would grade them as also near mint. This has barely been played and very well looked after.

The Original Macneill press sleeve is incredibly still in its original cellophane with the original price sticker on it ( bought in HMV ). This must surely be one of a kind. As a result I would grade the sleeve as being in near mint condition. A stunning example.

The pinched spine is still fully legible. Simply awesome.

I use Record Collector ratings to grade my vinyl. These are :

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc..

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
