Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have accumulated over a period of more than 50 years! Here is the original 1st UK pressing of Roxy Music 1972 in decent condition for a 48 year old album! Important note, this is being sold for its collectability, being their debut rather than for its condition. The original 1st issue cover, visually is superb in my opinion. I have kept this album stored in a case with the cover separated from the vinyl for protection. This is how I have always stored my records. I have owned this album from new and initially would have only played this to record to tape and then stored it away! This is complete with the original blue Island Record sleeve with no splits or tares just light general creasing and staining with age only (usual on these originals). The audio is clear and vibrant through out, isolated static type crackle/ticks/pops is noted in very quieter places or intros but the main audio is clear and very vibrant.  NOTE four or five scuff type ticks and perhaps a slight skip heard at the outro to a track "Would You Beleive" on side two that must be caused by an imperfection or very tiny mark/ scratch that goes with the grooves. (It is noted that I play tested this record with a cartridge weight of 0.8gram. This is the only weight that I can play on my system  for this vinyl to play through this mark others may find this different, this album probably, or would need a constant cleaning before each play to reduce this, because I noted debrit on the playing surface after play) This has been laying dormant in a case for over 45 years.  I would grade the audio at least  Excellent and better  for the most part in my opinion! 1st UK pressing! Collectable Roxy Music debut album.

The electronic band Ladytron took their name after the song with the same title from this album.
The opening track, "Re-Make/Re-Model", has been labelled a post-modernist pastiche, featuring solos by each member of the band echoing various touchstones of Western music, including The Beatles' "Day Tripper", Duane Eddy's version of "Peter Gunn", and Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries"; the esoteric "CPL 593H" was supposedly the license number of a car spotted by Bryan Ferry that was driven by a beautiful woman.

Brian Eno produced some self-styled "lunacy" when Ferry asked him for a sound "like the moon" for the track "Ladytron". "If There Is Something" was covered by David Bowie's Tin Machine, and was later featured quite extensively, almost as a central figure, in the British film Flashbacks of a Fool. A number of songs were thematically linked to movies. "2HB", with its punning title, was Ferry’s tribute to Humphrey Bogart and quoted the line "Here's looking at you, kid" made famous by the 1942 film Casablanca; "Chance Meeting" was inspired by David Lean's Brief Encounter (1945). "The Bob" took its title from Battle of Britain (1968) and included a passage simulating the sound of gunfire.

Roxy Music, particularly the album's LP incarnation, has been released in different packages over the years.

The album's original cover, as issued in 1972 by Island Records, featured a gatefold sleeve picturing the band (including original bass guitarist Graham Simpson) in stage attire designed by Antony Price, and did not include the track "Virginia Plain".

The album's original U.S. release, in late 1972 on Warner Bros. Records' Reprise subsidiary, included "Virginia Plain", which had since been issued as a single in the UK. The original U.S. release also featured a gatefold sleeve, but replaced Simpson's photo with that of Rik Kenton, who played bass on "Virginia Plain" following Simpson's departure from the group.

The Vinyl.

The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable. On initial inspection I can't see any real surface marks or indeed any marks that would cause any nasty loud constant clicks or pops and visually still retains its original sheen from new! If I look hard I can see a very small mark/scratch that goes with the grooves at the outro to the track "Would You Beleive" that causes some interference at this point. (Please listen in the player above) Any other marks that could possibly be seen would be light whyspy sleeve removal type marks only (at least nothing that would cause any other loud constant  clicks or pops but just perhapes the odd isolated light background static or minor ticks, light clicks/pops heard in the odd very quiet places only)  I have stored this vinyl seperately from the cover in a case for the best part of 45 years! This vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turn table. Looks and sounds barely ever played at all in my opinion!

After a few cleans and being played I'm sure that the audio will  clean up.

The audio Quality

I have played this vinyl through track for track at very loud volume on a top system! The audio is cristal clear and vibrant through out with no signs of distortion or that this has been over played what so ever! Top audio through out!  Points to note! It is easy to be critical about these early seventies pressings, especially I have noticed that these early Island vinyls are very soft in comparison to other vinyls ! Please allow for the odd isolated light static crackle isolated ticks or light clicks/pops perhaps heard on the run offs or in quieter places only (not consistant throughout the audio! Please note there is four or five scuff type ticks/ or perhapes a slight skip, heard at ther end of "would You Beleive" noted on side two. This is caused by an imperfection or mark. (It is noted that I play tested this record with a cartridge weight of 0.8gram. This is the only weight that I can play on my sensitive system for this vinyl to play through this mark others with different cartridges may find this different, this album probably needs a constant cleaning before each play to reduce this, because I noted debrit on the playing surface after play)  Audio grades at excellent and better for the most part  in my opinion!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd isolated light static /tick/pops that may be heard only in isolated quiet parts only (not) consistant throughout the audio! (noted four or five scuff ticks heard at the end of track "Would You Beleive"as mentioned above,  Please remember that this is a genuine 48 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 48 year old system! In my personal opinion the audio is very enjoyable and the vinyl has obviously barely ever been played!

This is the original blue Island paper sleeve with light creasing/fading/staining with age only (no) splits or tares!

The cover!

This is the original 1st uk press Fully laminated gate fold cover!  Mega rare and very hard to keep and find in this awesome super glossy condition! This is super glossy in appearence,  Amaizingly with this very fragile cover there just a couple of minor corner creases to mention on the exterior one on front right hand corner and one on the back at the  bottom only, barely noticed at all unless looked for!  ABSOLUTELY STUNNING 1ST PRESS COVER AT LEAST better than excellent in my opinion !

The labels

The original 1st issue Island (pink rim) labels are awesome! Any spider marks are just minimal only barely noticed unless angled to the light! Unbeleivable for 48 years old! Try to find better! There is little if no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round!
