THE STONE KILLER aka L'ASSASSINO DI PIETRA - OST Lp by ROY BUDD. Original Italian pressing on the FONIT CETRA INTERNATIONAL label (ILS 9032), from 1973. Italian-only, holy grail soundtrack :) A dark / sinister and beautiful score. Influential for certain producers (James Lavelle Mo Wax etc) due to the menacing beats / breaks / moody arrangements and middle eastern style strings on several themes. Most of the important compositions are funky variations on a theme but Budd (on spooky syntheziser and treated electric piano) also colours his music with cinematic jazz / bossa and strange lounge sounds. A blueprint and forerunner to his later Diamonds soundtrack with the same funky drummer playing all the freestyle hip hop / B-boy breaks / military drum riffs and killer beats. DOWN UPTOWN is the bossa theme / groovy fender rhodes lounge on DOWN DOWNTOWN / strung-out synth funk with stylish orchestrations on the MAIN TITLE and THE OLD PRECINT reprise / tabla breaks on THE CHASE / exotic orchestral groove on FROM VIETNAM TO NEW YORK etc etc. We have basically recorded the full Lp, finishing with the elegant jazz theme, TOO LATE. Mood music from the cult film directed by Michael Winner starring Death Wish main-man, Charles Bronson. Sleazy New York cop funk at its very best. Many samples for the Akai MPC generation. For us, this recording is up there with Budd's Get Carter film score, for sure. Very rare OST Lp!!! Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is in VG+ condition with hairlines and old, faded pressing marks from compressed contact with the original plastic inner. All themes have some degree of light surface noise. A couple of tiny scratches cause soft pops / ticks to outro of 'Down Downtown' and part of 'On The Move' theme. The front laminated sleeve is in strong VG++ condition with small tear / damage to middle of spine side. Minimal wear elsewhere. Ring creasing and light dirt marks from storage. Pen writing (just a number '3' to back sleeve only). Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Very rare OST Lp!!!
