Description
Original 1976 pressing on the Mod-Art label out of Chicago. Not the reissue! This is one of only two LPs ever pressed by Mod-Art (the other LP being the more straight-ahead soul record by THE CLASS SET).
“Hard Times” is funkier and weirder, embracing synths and drum machines in the vein of the Shuggy Otis (since they were contemporaries). Like Shuggy, Guitar Red (a.k.a. Paul Johnson) sings on several tracks and plays ALL of the instruments, including the retro drum machines and space age synths. Recorded in early 1976 at the Enterprise Studios in Maywood, Illinois; produced by Chuck Sibit
If you are unfamiliar with this rare record, I recommend hearing the funky instrumental track “Disco from a Space Show” from the following location where it streams:
Neapolitanfunk DOT com SLASH red DOT mp3
With very minor discoloring on the front (see pic), sleeve is very clean with strong seams, except for one top split of a little over an inch. Disc is almost NM, with shiny vinyl, but I grade it strong VG+ because there is some very light surface noise between tracks. Fantastic copy of a record that you will probably never see again.
