Historic & Rare Acetate Disc Label
Wallich's Music City, Sunset & Vine
Hollywood, Los Angeles
~ 1940s ~

Historic and rare record label for Wallich's Music City in Los Angeles. Dates to the 1940s. Blank acetate (lacquer over aluminum) recording disc w/ label on both sides. Labels look great. Lacquer surface shows wear as seen. I wasn't able to find another one anywhere on the internet. Definitely dates to the 1940s as I just found another copy that does have recordings on it and it's hand-dated 1948. I think this unrecorded blank is an especially historic and fun piece of Los Angeles history and will make for great display.

From Wikipedia:

Wallichs Music City was founded by Glenn E. Wallichs. In the mid?1930s he started two recording studios. In 1940, Wallichs opened Music City, at Sunset and Vine. It was located on the northwest corner of Sunset & Vine and operated from 1940 to 1978. Owner Glenn Wallichs started Capitol Records, along with Tin Pan Alley songsmith Johnny Mercer and ex-Paramount movie producer Buddy De Sylva from a small office on Vine Street in 1942, and moved to larger offices above the store in 1946. After Capitol Records moved to the Capitol Tower in 1956, the offices above Music City became the home of Dot Records.

In an era when most recorded music was sold through mom and pop stores, Wallichs Music City became the premier record store in Southern California and the world's largest specialty record store. It was one of the first music stores to seal record albums in cellophane and put them in display racks for customers to browse. The store was also the first to have demonstration booths for listening to records. The store became a hub of the LA music scene. Music fans flocked there to meet artists like Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Johnny Mercer, Nat King Cole to have them sign sheet music of their latest hits. Frank Zappa worked part-time there in 1965 as a salesman in the singles department.
