Rare 33 rpm 7-inch record: RUDOLPH VALENTINO sings El Relicario (in Spanish) - one-sided disc with etched design to the other side; Rare Records S-102, one of their "Voices from the Past" series, released in the late 1940's or early 1950's. The whole series is very hard-to-find. This includes the picture sleeve, which lists 36 different releases. I found a quote online about this recording: "One of the biggest stars of the silent film era, Valentino made only two vocal recordings, both in a 1923 session. He probably would have made more…if he’d gotten better results. Legend has it that upon hearing them, Valentino quipped “Well, there goes my opera career”. Seems the folks from Brunswick Records agreed…the records were shelved, and weren’t commercially released until 1930 [on 78 rpm shellac], 4 years after his death. And they sold very little even then."
Condition: VG+/Fair (minor scuffs, one surface scratch that I can just barely feel; plays well with soft background throughout, a little extra weight on the arm reduces the background sound; clean label; sleeve has a split right edge, mostly-split left edge, partially-split bottom edge, small tears to edges, some heavy wrinkles, and spotting to right margin and bottom margin).
