The Cock Blocking The Romantics Singles Collection features twelve 7-inch singles that originally were released independently from Robert Pollard as a monthly series back in 2007-2008. The A sides are songs from Robert Pollard’s 2007 simultaneous releases on Merge Records, Standard Gargoyle Decisions and Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love, while the B sides are non-album tracks.
Assembled in a box set for Record Store Day 2013. 300 box sets with all twelve 7"s. Box was also sold separately for those that purchased the 7"s previously. Includes download code for the b-sides only.
Remaining stock from the original pressing of 1000 were used for the box sets so the singles are all still limited to 1000 copies. Jacket and Inner sleeve are in crisp clean condition. Vinyl is in nice shape and free of any scratches that would affect playback.
In the tradition of rock and roll singles clubs, Robert Pollard decided in 2007 to launch his own! A 7'' a month for 12 months when the lucky bidder signed up. The A-sides of each 7'' contain a track off of either Coast to Coast Carpet of Love or Standard Gargoyle Decisions, both of which were released on 10/9/07 on Merge Records.
Each 7'' was released on Happy Jack Rock Records, and came in a plain white sleeve, limited to 1000 copies of each.
After the initial release of each 7'', all remained available via the Rockathon records website for order. In 2013, the remaining 7''s were gathered up, stuffed in a box set, and sold as part of 2013's Record Store Day as Cock Blocking the Romantics. A clever ploy to move product? Maybe. A new collector's item was born, and empty boxes were then sold on the Rockathon Records store website for the original collectors who purchased the 7''s back in 2007.
Indie rock 12 x vinyl 45 rpm stereo compilation, lit. ed. 4/20/13

Like all of Robert Pollard b-sides (and songs in general) you get a wide range of styles here that fall into mid-tempo rockers like “Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love”, power pop romps such as “Piss Along You Bird” and the more acoustic lo-fi strums of “Spirit Of The Fly”. There is also the John Shough version of the Pollard penned “Sixland” (which appeared on Guided By Voices Suitcase 3) as a b-side to “Count Us In”. “Sixland” is a track that I have always thought had great potential for Pollard with its very early GBV sound.
For some the high point of this set will be the art designed box that houses the 7-inches. The box set is limited to just 300 copies and the singles are pressed on black wax and housed in standard plain white sleeves. You also will receive a download card for the b-sides only. For fans that have already purchased these singles Rockathon Records has you covered as this collector box will be available for purchase separately.
Originally there were 1000 each of these singles pressed but the b-sides were not available digitally until now. This singles collection will be out tomorrow on Record Store Day and should be one of the harder titles to find with such a low pressing so if you see one – you should grab one!
