Aaaah…call this a labor of love, if you will: marketing the music and the vibrant, joyful voice of my all-time favorite singer - and spreading the Sam Cooke gospel in the process !!! That's heaven to us, indeed. Sam Cooke was the greatest American singer of all time, no ifs, ands or buts. Respectfully, the fans of Enrico Caruso, Frankie Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat "King" Cole or Billy Ecstine can take their case elsewhere - our judgment is firm and final (and also shared by such an authority as Jerry Wexler, legendary Atlantic A&R man, who - to paraphrase his words - proclaimed that Sam Cooke was a "perfect" singer, who "had it all"). In an unlikely event that you are totally unfamiliar with Sam’s music, this is the disc from which you should start building your Sam Cooke collection. This 1965 album is the second "Greatest Hits" package Sam Cooke received, alas, this one posthumously. Unlike its famous predecessor (The Best of Sam Cooke /vol.1/), which went gold within weeks from its release in late 1962, and experienced multiple subsequent reissues on all possible formats (Cassette, Compact Disc, 8-Track, Ampex Tape), this one languished in the cut out bins, died an ignoble death and was never seen or heard from again. It was never reissued in any way, manner or format since - even though it is in many ways a much, much better compilation than the first volume. This album includes one of the most beautiful ballads ever written and sung by man, "A CHANGE IS GONNA COME". If, by the time this song ends you do not feel misty and teary-eyed, check your pulse and call 911 IMMEDIATELY. This legendary song, which inspired no less than 37 other versions (including the versions by Otis Redding, Gram Parker, Lorraine Elison, Jerry Buttler and practically every self-respecting black artist that ever lived) became one of the most-performed songs of all times. It is a classic gospel/R&B ballad which also served as an unofficial civil rights movement anthem. (a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(e)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 3 (back side)

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No wrinkles or creases

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
