Yes, folks, we are BLATANTLY, SHAMELESSLY PARTIAL when it comes to SAM COOKE !!!

Call this a labor of love, if you will: advertising the music and the vibrant, joyful voice of my all- time favorite singer - and spreading the Sam Cooke gospel in the process !!! That's heaven to me, indeed.

Sam Cooke was the greatest American singer of all times, hands down; no ifs, ands or buts. Respectfully, the fans of Enrico Caruso, Frankie Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat "King" Cole or Billy Ecstine can take their case elsewhere - my judgment is final (and also shared by such an authority as Jerry Wexler, legendary Atlantic A&R man, who - to paraphrase his words - proclaimed that Sam Cooke was a "perfect" singer, who "had it all"). In an unlikely event that you are totally unfamiliar with Sam's music, this is his FIRST studio album, recorded for KEEN label in 1958. Sam croons his way through 12 originals, as well as crossover and pop standards. Make no mistake: material here may be pop, but the voice is pure Rhythm & Blues!!! Sam Cooke could sing a mattress label and still come across as the best soul singer of them all. This is an embarrassment of the riches of the American vocal artistry; Crooning raised to the level of aesthetic and philosophical principle. If the human voice had a weight, Sam Cooke’s voice would have been worth its weight in gold. Absolutely indispensible!!!

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ ; STILL IN SHRINK WRAP.

NOTE: THIS RECORD COMES FROM A SMALL GROUP OF RECORDS, WHERE THE REPAIR ON THE COVER (TAPED SEAMS) IS VISIBLE UNDER THE SHRINK WRAP, MEANING THAT THE SHRINK WRAP IS NOT THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINK WRAP AND MUST HAVE BEEN ADDED AT SOME LATER POINT. NOTWITHSTANDING THE OBVIOUS REPAIR, THE COVER IS IN VERY NICE STATE OF PRESERVATION.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split top and bottom seams; These two split seams were delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 4 (back side)

-         Cover shows some yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Back cover has a small, rectangular, sticker residue (small yellowish discoloration from the removed price sticker)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
