SAM GOPAL DJ ONLY EP SAMPLER FROM ESCALATOR 1968 LEMMY
MEGA RARE PSYCH STABLE RECORDS SLE 8001
On offer is The SAM GOPAL DJ only EP sampler from ‘ESCALATOR’ issued by STABLE RECORDS SLE 8001 in the UK. This is the only copy of this DJ EP that I have ever come across and is much rarer than The SAM GOPAL LP Escalator from which these selections came. As well as Sam Gopal (the tabla player and percussionist) the group included Ian "Lemmy" Willis, aka Lemmy Kilminster, who was in beat and psychedelic bands in the 1960s before joining Hawkwind and Motorhead.
Alan Burridge in his online article on ‘The early years and recordings of MOTORHEAD’S Lemmy’ describes this mega rare EP thus – ‘A very rare [Sam Gopal] four track EP seems to have been pressed in minor quantities, too. This is somewhat of an odd item to say the least, as it shares the same catalogue number as the original album (SLE 8001). The EP is in fact a white label test pressing with a Stable Records label glued over the top. However, this was a fair move by Stable, as it offered a far more professional looking sampler for the DJ’s, rather than a white label with hand-written titles’.
This psych tinged rarity is in lovely EX/EX- condition with clear labels and nice clean vinyl. It plays EX. It comes housed in a plain white sleeve. (see scans).
