SWAY Lp by SANTE PALUMBO fender rhodes / HUGO HEREDIA flute & tenor sax / SERGIO FARINA guitar / LINO LIGUORI drums & percussion / MARCO RATTI contrabass & fender bass. Original Italian pressing on CiPiTi label (LP OK 8), from 1973. Desirable, fender rhodes funk / free jazz masterpiece by a quintet of cult players from the Italian jazz and Library music scene. Infectious, progressive moods with killer drums that easily rival the funkiest Tullio De Piscopo / Okay Temiz sound. Our soundclip opens with the sleazy wah wah funk of MAD with acidic flute solos from Argentinian jazz supremo, Hugo Heredia / brutal, b-boy style beats and breaks / obsessive basslines / evil fuzz rock distortions and deep fender rhodes from Palumbo. Unknown, hip hop style loops on the title track SWAY that morphs into yet another aggressive workout. This theme sounds more like a dark Mulatu / Marc Moulin Placebo arrangement than anything Italian jazz with latin congas / thunderous break-beats / psychedelic rock jazz motifs and soul-searching solos. Huge, deconstructed horns a la Marion Brown Le Temps Fou OST on the opening and closing bars too. We have also recorded SWEETEN with its hazy, mellow groove / the avantgarde piano jazz of BARTOKIANA and the funky CANON theme. Same label as Le Groupe X - Frrrrrigidaire / Ciak Si Muore giallo thriller soundtrack and The Vietnam - Transfert 2002 single. A must for leftfield / spiritual jazz collectors and lovers of the psychedelic funk sound. Very Rare Lp!!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG++ condition overall with some hairlines and a cosmetic only scuff across 'Canon' theme. Some surface noises and some soft pops but all copies seem to have this so most probably due to the actual pressing. The soft card, gatefold sleeve is in strong VG++ condition (closer to M-) with minimal light wear. Sharp corners and edges overall. Some ring dirt marks from storage. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Very rare Lp!!!
