This 1954 studio date, a self-titled album recorded for Emarcy. Vaughan sings nine intimate standards with a band including Clifford Brown on trumpet, Herbie Mann on flute, and Paul Quinichette on tenor, each of which have plenty of space for solos (most of the songs are close to the five-minute mark).
Vaughan is arguably in the best voice of her career here, pausing and lingering over notes on the standards "April in Paris," "Jim," and "Lullaby of Birdland." As touching as Vaughan is, however, Brown almost equals her with his solos on "Lullaby of Birdland," "Jim," and "September Song," displaying his incredible bop virtuosity in a restrained setting without sacrificing either the simple feeling of his notes or the extraordinary flair of his choices.
Quinichette's solos are magnificent as well, his feathery tone nearly a perfect match for Vaughan's voice. Ironically though, neither Brown nor Quinichette or Mann appear on the album's highlight, "Embraceable You," which Vaughan performs with close accompaniment from the rhythm section: Jimmy Jones on piano, Joe Benjamin on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums.
Vaughan rounds the notes with a smile and even when she's steeping to reach a few low notes, she never loses the tremendous feeling conveyed by her voice. In whichever incarnation it's reissued, Sarah Vaughan With Clifford Brown is one of the most important jazz-meets-vocal sessions ever recorded. (ALL MUSIC)
VINYL IS IN A VG PLUS CONDITION. THAT BEING SAID, THIS MEANS THERE ARE SOME THIN HAIR LINES AND NORMAL AGING OF A 60 YEAR OLD RECORD! - THE VINYL IS HEAVY DEEP GROOVED AND SHOWS NO REAL SCRATCHES. UPON PLAYING THE SOUND IS EXCELLENT! CERTAINLY THERE IS SOME LIGHT SURFACE NOISE TO BE EXPECTED BUT NOTHING TO TAKE AWAY ANY OF THE MAGNIFICENT VOCALS BY THE GREAT SARAH VAUGHAN AND THE BACKING BY THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS! EVEN BETWEEN TRACKS THE SURFACE NOISE IS VERY MINOR, NO SKIPS, NO JUMPS NO EXCESSIVE NOISE - JUST THE OCCASIONAL POP AND THE NORMAL LIGHT "HISS" - THIS IS A VERY NICE RECORD AND FULLY GUARANTEED!
THE JACKET IS VG+ - NO WRITING NO LABELS - SHOWS SOME VERY LIGHT RING WEAR ON THE LAMINATE FRONT AND MINOR BUMPING TO CORNERS AND EDGES - NORMAL AGE WEAR HAS A 2" CENTER SLIT AT BOTTOM AND THERE IS SOME SMALL TAPE AT TOP AND BOTTOM 1/2" TO PREVENT ANY SPLITS (PLEASE INSPECT PHOTOS) I NOTICE A NAME STAMP ON BACK AND SIDE OF FRONT BY THE ORIGINAL JAZZ COLLECTOR WHO OWNED THE RECORD AND TOOK CARE OF IT THE SPINE IS VERY READABLE WITH NORMAL LIGHT BUMPING NOT A CUT OUT - NO SLITS OR PUNCH HOLES

NOTE: I HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO DEEP CLEAN THIS RECORD AND WITH SUCH CLEANING IT WILL BE AN EVEN HIGHER GRADE!
FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY.
Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft. These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound. Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs
Mint
This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!
Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.
Mint Minus - No such thing, it's either mint or not.
Excellent - A disc is super clean, with no visible marks
Excellent Plus, means it's probably mint but can't be proven by me.
Excellent minus, is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing
VG - A disc that is STILL in good shape, WILL have some scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++,a disc that is that much better than VG.
VG minus, just a smidgen below VG
