Description

SAX 2446-2450 St. Matthews Passion first label turquoise and silver (or if you prefer to call it Blue silver) English pressing!!! Get in while the australian dollar is so cheap to buy, I get my money, you get a cheap purchase on exchange rates.

Only a couple of very small scuffs, mostly non sounding, only scuffs/scratches that make any noise are on side 1(Photo 4) very soft pipping occasionally before singing commences, photo intentionally taken in sunlight to make it look its worst, mostly non sounding, worst is 4 repetitive 'pips' during a quiet flute solo. A scratch on side 9, so small it won't show in a photo, but at 11 oclock on side 9, makes soft pipping during solo soft singing, hardly noticeable, 2 other non sounding hairline scuffs on that side, that look worse than the sounding scratch!!

Scuff on side 8 (photo's 5& 6) NON SOUNDING, again taken in strong sunlight so it looks really bad, but no sound.  Other than that beautiful glossy records with no noticeable vinyl noise, showing therefore little wear and good care in their life. There is one invisible (magnifying glass required) spot on beginning of side 8 which gives 4 distinct clicks, under magnification it looks like a pinprick dot (dent) that has caused this, no tracking faults anywhere though.

Box condition (See Photo's)Average, has corner splits on closing lid, bottom  corners. Some splitting back of box at bottom (see photo 9).  Has some bottom edge shelf wear, see same photo.  Again photo's taken in full sunlight so even a bit of gloss worn of the edges looks really bad in the photo, but don't say I don't give detailed descriptions!!!

shelf wear only to bottom and back of box  where sliding may have occured .

The spline lettering  is a little  faint, assume it was brighter at some stage.

Inside of box is  clean with no sign of previous staining, moisture or mould.but has hand written name and date 1966 on insideclosing lid (see photo 12)

LP's Condition (see Photo's) Overall EXCELLENT, See above for details of two faintly audible scratches.

All records have been Preliminary washed using a Knosti Antistat bath, followed by Last Power Cleaner and finished with Last Record Preservative (said to protect from wear damage for up to 200 plays). 'Last 'is an archive quality Cleaner, and AUDIOPHILES SUCH AS YOURSELF, ARE PROBABLY ALREADY USING THIS, OR S IMILAR RECORD PRESERVERS, i HAVE JUST SAVED YOU THE TIME AND EXPENSE.

Having said how well I have tried to preserve them for you, the discs are in overall beautiful condition, some light scuffs that do not affect the playback (I've test played those sections) and the small and faint scratches as detailed above.

Having had the full cleaning and preserving treatment, they are stunning in their Gloss, and having play tested a fair portion of them, a high recommendation to the quality of these early Columbia pressings, (really good in live opera!) and low levels of background vinyl noise

Odd sections test played throughout rest of records show  pops and clicks, as usual associated with vinyl recordings, but they would be more described as odd pops and clicks without repetitive patterns associated with scratch style damage. ONLY VERY OCCASIONAL AT THAT !!

There is some  spindle wear from being placed on a spinning turntable at times throughout their nearly fifty(?) years of life. but a couple of the records seem to have almost none, would indicate full opera may not have been played(?)

Except for a few non playing hairline scuffs, and the scratches as described, records are very glossy with that "new" look to them .

Booklet  (Libretto)32 pages

No tears or dog ears,Beautiful condition

Dust Jackets original early sleeves supplied in good condition but as records have been cleaned and treated with archive quality preservative, I have supplied 5 new anti scratch sleeves from Mobile Fidelity (MFSL) these are standard issue with their audiophile issues.
