BOX COVER w/2 INNERS & 24 PAGE PHOTO/LYRIC BOOKLET

SCOTT WALKER
The Drift

ORIGINAL UK 4AD PROMOTIONAL PRESSING (DRIFT 1), (MAY 2006) OF SCOTT WALKER'S "The Drift" 2 LP SET - A SENSATIONAL PIECE OF WORK OF STUNNING SOUNDSCAPES FROM THE UNCOMPROMISING MAVERICK - IN UNPLAYED CONDITION - A TRULY ASTONISHING LP

Pressed on two quality heavyweight vinyls, the labels carry the ‘promotional use only’ text and are are housed in the original single silky matt 'box' sleeve with ‘promotional use only’ statement and DRIFT 1 catalogue number (the commercial issue is CAD 2603)
Complete with the two original thick card inner sleeves (printed ‘SIDE A & B’ and ‘SIDE C & D’ with the promo DRIFT 1 catalogue number) and the full size 24-page photo/lyric booklet with foreword by Ian Penman
MATRICES: DRIFT 1 A, B, C & D (with the commercial release CAD matrix present but crossed out)

The Drift is like little else in music.
The melodic austerity, somewhere between plainsong and operatic recitative, may shock fans of Walker's lush 1960s records but, gloriously, The Drift is a record that demands a lot of work and repays tenfold.
Bleak, haunting and disturbed, there is narrative here, but it is fragmented, wrapped in allusion, and both bolstered and distorted by games played with the very shapes and sounds of words.
The music wheezes, thunders and clatters, continuing Walker's experimentation with chords stretched and held to breaking point.
Billowing at its heart, that exquisite voice whose oddly hopeful tenor flails against the death, disease, disappointment and general evil it describes.
There's not a minute of The Drift that isn't utterly thrilling.
Frequently, as in the deathbed scene depicted with heart-meltingly stark elegance in A Lover Loves, it is also simple, human, and moving.

LABELS: The labels are unmarked with no spindle traces or signs of use - MINT
VINYL Visual: All four surfaces have some pressing blemishes within the vinyl itself (common on contemporary pressings) but there are no later marks - these blemishes are present on all copies and have little audio consequence - as-new but visually NEAR MINT
VINYL Audio: Strong powerful sound to this vinyl edition with an impressive crystal clear, warm and loud cut. This is an absolutely astonishing piece of work - infinitely rewarding on each successive play. Unplayed before my one careful play-through, it sounds like-new. There is the (very) occasional light background 'tick' and touch of surface noise - present since manufacture (my own personal copy was just the same from new and just like my own copy these are most evident on "Psoriatic") - therefore critically graded NEAR MINT for audio (I have never heard a completely MINT sounding copy of this album and any copies listed as mint and unplayed will sound the same) but any minor audio imperfections present are more than compensated for by the sensational audio delivery - which only vinyl can offer)
SLEEVE: Crisp, clean and fresh with no wear to the edges or spine and only the smallest touch of rubbing to the front surface - the surfaces have a silky, matt sheen which only has to be handled once to leave a mark - MINT(-) (actually better looking than my own copy looked new)
INNER SLEEVES: Both thick card inner sleeves are MINT(-) with some light record impression but no wear or splits
BOOK: Untouched - MINT

Track Listing:
