This is the "SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND"  UK 1973 1st press LP by GENESIS

The was the 5th studio LP released by GENESIS.

The LP was bought on its release in 1973, and is a very early 1st pressing.

The vinyl is on the CHARISMA ("Mad Hatter") label, number CAS 1074 and has the following early 1st press matrix numbers:

  • Side 1:    CAS 1074  A-1U with "PORKY-RAY” etched in the blank vinyl.
  • Side 2:    CAS 1074  B-2U with "PECKO” etched in the blank vinyl.

PLAYTEST

The LP plays superbly,  like a new record, very quiet between tracks, no pops, bangs, jumping or sticking.

Playtest grade is NEAR MINT.

Visual

Visually the record is graded as EX++, with no scratches and only a couple of label spindle marks, which are hard to notice

Side 1: Looks unmarked, a couple of very short feint surface marks when viewed under a strong light.

Side 2: Looks unmarked, just one thin feint surface mark on last track, when viewed under a strong light.

COVER

The cover is graded EX- and was not laminated, but has no writing or labels.

There is some partial ringwear on the front and back cover - please see photos.

The edges and corners are in very good shape, with just some thin stains along part of the top and bottom seams.

The spine is also excellent with all the lettering visible.

Overall in excellent shape, although the handling marks over the years, show up on the very light background - see photos.

INSERT

The original lyrics insert is included in the sale (see photo), and is a nice flat card.

The insert shows no wear and is graded EX+
