Description
A lovely condition example of the very first 8 track cartridge release in November 1969, of " Sgt Pepper" by The Beatles. Stereo with tape speed of 3 & 3/4 ips. Very nice.
A little heat raising to the two separate full colour cover labels showing the front and the rear of the LP vinyl album. This is common on all 8 tracks but does not detract from its well cared for condition. (See Photos)
The tape head backing strip has been replaced with new and the pivot wheel cleaned. Comes with some spare foil sensors if ever needed (See photo) - an easy operation to fit. Tested and plays perfectly.
These first release Beatles 8 track tapes came in blue wrappers with a large rectangular cut-out cellophaned window to show the cover label, (NO inlays as with later REissues), but most owners discarded these after opening, considering them simply to be part of the packaging you threw away. The last photo shows one of these wrappers. (NOT included with this item). You would be extremely lucky to come across an 8 track cartridge with this wrapper today!
These first UK 8 track releases of the Beatles catalogue were sold from 1969 to end of 1971. After that period REissues were sold in varying front/rear label designs (some in poor monochrome) and packaged in cardboard slip boxes and plastic cases with inlays.
I bought this item from one collector as part of a carefully looked after Beatles catalogue - all cartridges which were in the same, well looked after, condition. Please see photographs. Reasonably priced given its nice condition.
Please see my other items for some very good condition first release Beatles 8 track cartridges and first release cassette albums and a guide for identifying cassettes.
