THE FINEST dance orchestra in St. Louis was the ARCADIA PEACOCK ORCHESTRA, playing nightly for dancers at the Arcadia Ballroom. St. Louis was the hub of a lively music scene, which only got livelier as the decade rolled on.  

From their first session (Jan. 1924) comes the (now) politically incorrect "SHE WOULDN'T DO WHAT I ASKED HER TO (So I Socked Her In the Jaw!") backed with "AIN'T YOU ASHAMED," two peppy and lively numbers.  

The band already had some significant players, including BOB POPE (trumpet), BUD HASSLER (reeds) and MARTY LIVINGSTON (vocals) all of whom still would be on hand for the '25-'26 season, when Bix Beiderbecke and Frank Trumbauer reorganized the band.  

(n.b.: "She Wouldn't Do" is only "un-PC" if you take the lyrics dead seriously. They are couched in the same spirit as Ralph Kramden saying to his wife, "Wunna these days - -  WUNNA THESE DAYS, ALICE! - - - POW! Right in the kisser!" Toon violence.)   

This original maroon-label OKeh 40052 is in thrashed G+ condition. Yes, it has known the gentle caress of the proverbial railroad spike, with heavy damage at the start of both sides.  It's STILL a quite scarce record - not too many have survived into 2021.  Still, there's yet plenty of life in it.  Well worth my paltry minimum! 

The yellow number "5397" in the dead wax of "Ashamed" was put there by DON BROWN, the late legendary proprietor of the Jazz Man Record Shop of Hollywood and Santa Monica. I'd love to know what kind of ink he used, as nothing short of a sandblaster can remove it!

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care.
