A SUPERB COPY
MLLE. DEREYNE Chanteuse Légère of the French Opera Mlle. Dereyne was born in the environs of Paris. As a young child she exhibited extraordinary talent for music, and at the early age of fourteen her singing attracted the attention of the principal professor of the Conservatoire of Music. It was decided that she should study the stage, and after two years' training she made her debut as Marguerite in Faust in a small town in the south of France. The freshness and beauty of her voice soon brought her name under the notice of the director of the Paris Opera House, but she was unable to to accept an engagement on account of having signed a contract for the Opera House in Budapest. Success rapidly followed success and the young singer's prominence brought her a highly remunerative contract for the Grand Opera of Nice, where she sang principal roles together with Florencio Constantino, and their mutual triumphs constituted one of the sensational events of the French Riviera. Mlle. Dereyne has a three years' contract with Mr. Henry Russell, and she will be heard as Micaela in "Carmen" in the opening night of the San Carlo Opera Company at the Fench Opera House on Nov. 20. ************** In 1907-08 Fély Dereyne sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, her debut announced in the press as Musetta in La Boheme with Farrar, Caruso, and Journet. The Discography of American Historical Recordings (DAHR) lists three recordings for Columbia in 1912 and 1913.
