SIMON & GARFUNKEL - SOUNDS OF SILENCE - Vinyl Record - HHR00826 VG
This record is from Simon & Garfunkel, an American folk rock duo consisting of singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel. One of the best-selling music acts of the 1960s, their most famous recordings include three US number ones: The Sound of Silence (1965), Mrs Robinson (1968) and Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970). Simon and Garfunkel had a troubled relationship, leading to artistic disagreements and their breakup in 1970. The duo have, however, reunited several times; their 1981 concert in Central Park may have attracted more than 500,000 people. Simon & Garfunkel are among the best-selling music artists of all time having sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
Sounds of Silence is their second studio album, released on January 17, 1966. The album's title is a slight modification of the title of the duo's first major hit, The Sound of Silence, which originally was released as "The Sounds of Silence". Solo acoustic versions of "I Am a Rock", "Leaves That Are Green", "April Come She Will", "A Most Peculiar Man", and "Kathy's Song" had appeared on The Paul Simon Songbook, released in August 1965 in England as had another version of the title track. The album cover photo features the duo on a trail looking back towards the camera. The secondary school scarves they are wearing were from The Campion School in Hornchurch, UK. This school was attended by the boys of the Brentwood family, where Paul lodged during his time in the UK.
