MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND original CBS Records very first Mono press released by CBS Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1968 by Philips Chilena S.A. (Philips Records), licensed from C.B.S., USA, catalog number 90.016, with hand etched matrix numbers 90016-A AA in Side A and 90016-B AA in Side B, with traditional orange/black CBS Records labels with small boxed CBS logo at top and 3-prong push-out center. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“Mrs. Robinson” and “Scarborough Fair (/Canticle)” were songs released as singles many times, first like singles (“Scarborough Fair (/Canticle)” in February 1968 and “Mrs. Robinson” in April 1968, in USA) and also as sides A and B of the same single and late the same year we got both songs included in the same single released here in Chile. Song titles are written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for songwriters and additional information, written in Spanish only, “from the film “The Graduate””, in both labels, and the play time of each song. It’s interesting to notice that play time of “Mrs. Robinson” in this Chilean press is “3:45”, because the original play time informed in original US press is “4:00”, only US Promo copies inform “3:39”. And the song title of “Scarborough Fair (/Canticle)” in this Chilean press is “ “Scarborough FAIR/CANTICLE”, without the brackets. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS of this so classic single by Simon And Garfunkel, with Spanish-written song titles and UNIQUE PLAY TIME of “Mrs. Robinson”, a record almost never seen!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Simon And Garfunkel and Folk Rock/Pop music of late ‘60’s!!!

This record doesn’t have a cover. The record is in VG+ or EX- condition both sides, glossy and clean, with some soft scuffs and light hairlines, which don’t affect play at all, with the push-out center almost intact (one of the prongs is broken). Labels on both sides are in great EX or EX+ condition, clean and clear, with only some spindle hole wear, some age browning and faint blemishes, hard to see at first sight, with the name of the radio station which originally owned this record written in Side A. The sound is in strong VG or VG+ condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, with a soft background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with constant soft crackles and some occasional light clicks and pops here and there, more evident in Side B, which don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, maybe this record could not to be for the strictest Minty minds or audiophiles, but for sure it is still a great record in this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS, with a nice glossy look, clean labels and a very decent and respectable sound quality after about 52 years, which won’t disappoint anyone and will satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean issue!!! Yes, Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
