Ska Authentic stands as one of the foundational documents of Jamaican ska

A 1964 various-artists compilation credited to “the Ska-Talites,” the studio band that would soon become internationally known as the Skatalites.

Heritage Auctions has independently catalogued this exact White Label variant as the scarcest version of the release, citing only three known examples.

This copy’s deadwax, manufacturer credit, label design and cover ALL match that documented variant.

The Album captures a genre and a group still being defined in real time, months before that name was formally set. Tommy McCook’s instrumental “Freedom Sounds” opens the record, followed by vocal cuts from The Gaylads, Jackie Opel, and a young Lee Perry, whose “Mother-In-Law” is among the earliest commercially issued vocal performances of his career. Side two brings Roland Alphonso instrumentals, The Maytals’ “Heaven Declare,” and Delroy Wilson’s “Sammy Dead.”

This is an original 1964 Jamaican WHITE LABEL first pressing, catalog JBL 1112 on ND Records. There is no side designation on the labels, making this the earliest.

The 2nd white label pressing has SIde 1 / Side 2 printed on labels as well as a shortened matrix in the deadwax.

Heritage Auctions has independently catalogued this exact White Label variant as “the scarcest version of the release, citing only three known copies” . This is not verified, but we can safely says this is a scarce Variant of a Very Rare Record.

No lacquer cut information is shown in the runouts; the matrix simply reads “SKA AUTHENTIC - Side A / Side B — consistent with information from both Discogs & Heritage Auctions.

The cover carries the now-iconic red and yellow “SKA AUTHENTIC” artwork, with a trombonist bursting through a starburst over a black-and-white recording session photo, plus full backing-band credits and photos of Lee Perry, The Gaylads, and Delroy Wilson on the reverse.

The labels are white ND RECORDS stock with the brand’s signature skyline logo, no catalog number and no side designation.
