STUPPEDLY DIFFICULT modern progressive jazz rock with everything and the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. By now, Robert Wyatt had jumped ship (probably tormented by the riddiculously difficult music) and the free form jazz masterminded by Hopper and Ratledge had taken a serious hold pushing the band into a convoluted niche that you either love or hate. Me? Let's just say I could do without the tricky synchopation and Karl Jenkins' screaming Sax.
Clearly the band were flying high on this release stretching boundaries and taking their serious jazz to another level. Side's one and two were recorded live in concert and are all the better for it with dynamic interplay and perfect synchopation. The second disc is a studio creation and again the band are out to impress with killer chops and breathtaking arrangements.
Really, for moderin jazz prog it doesn't get much better than this.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: CBS, UK, 1973 - Original deep orange label
Vinyl: In beautiful unplayed condition - super clean surface. No spindle marks and no other signs of use whatsoever. Both albums grade as MINT!
Cover: Again, virtually no signs of use. Very fragile and thin textured cover that is uusally prone to massive wear and tear - it's virtually impossible to find clean copies like this one. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no split seams, no ring wear and no creases. Really, quite an impossible sleeve to find in decent condition as the thin paper stock made them so vunerable to poor handling. This one is about as good as new! Original price sticker (removeable) on label £2.99!Grades as MINT!
