This is the legendary Xenakis box ! Made only for French Radio use with all of Xenakis’ electronic & experimental works up to 1969! All housed in an incredibly deluxe package in a beautiful black cloth box, with a book that boggles my mind with all of its notes, biographical info and unbelievable reproductions of Iannis’ scores . One of the very most sought-after artifacts of 20th-Century music, period. Beyond ESSENTIAL , this is simply a cornerstone of electronic music/composition history. Really interesting is the following critic on Xenakis' work over the years, which isn't at all flattering, I would say the least aggresive is this comment: "I am horiffied, when men torture women or musical instruments".

One of the greatest mathematicians, thinkers and musicians of the 20th Century. On these records, you can find everything from his early electronic music to his weird experimental music made after mathematical patterns and calculations with computer machines: "Syrmos pour 18 cordes", "Polytope pour 4 orchestres dissemines dans le public", "Medea pour choeur d'hommes, galets et orchestre", "Kraanerg musique pour orchestre et bande magnetique", "Terretektorh pour grand orchestre dont les musiciens, dissemines dans le public, jouent de 4 instruments a percussion en plus du leur", "Nomos Gamma pour grand orchestre dissemine dans le public", "Bohor I", "Diamorphoses II", Orient-occident III", "Concret P-H II".

This set includes a 36 pages booklet describing some of Xenakis music theories, with Mathematical graphics, drawings, letters debates and exchanges (with Hermann Scherchen, among others), and essays from Maurice Fleuret and Francois-Bernard Mache. The result is unearthly and very unique...very different from anything else you've listened this far... A historic highly recommended boxset!!

Xenakis was a contemporary with fellow Greek composers, like Anestis Logothetis, Jani Christou and Kyriakos Sfetsas and was creating in a time that flourished the various sound experiments of Pierre Schaeffer & Pierre Henry, Henk Badings and of course Luciano Berio, Luigi Nono, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Alvin Curran and Toshi Ichiyanagi, Henri Chopin, Toru Takemitsu, Giacinto Scelsi and Micheline Coulombe-Saint-Marcoux, John Cage, David Tudor, Harry Partch and Joseph Beuys, Alvin Lucier, Bernard Parmegiani, Jacques Lejeune and Luc Ferrari.

Vinyls are in excellent, very fresh condition after all those years, most of them seem unplayed, but slight marks on a couple of them, so I don't give them a full mint grade (visually graded)

Box is = in vg+ overall, externally it might seem better than that, but on the inside at the bottom is a small stain.

Just impossible to find a copy in any condition today, so don't let this get away!!
