STEVE DUNSTAN Magnetic Fields (Private/Astralia) Australia 1979.
Super RARE!! Private Pressed AUSSIE late 70s Electronic LP by the mysterious Steve Dunstan. He was an early member of 60s groups the 18th Century Quartet and Levi Smith's Clefs, and likely others. The album starts off a bit Jazzy/Prog/Electronica but gets more and more abstract and experimental/soundscapes as it goes along. Recommended!
Here's a bit of info i 'dug up' on him, via the web - Around this time Ted Baarda attended a national intervarsity jazz convention in Sydney, where he met bassist, pianist, composer and "lovable eccentric" Steve Dunstan. Steve persuaded Ted to enter his original piece "Ghost Town" in the Original Tunes competition and it was declared the winner by judge Don Burrows. Dunstan went on to became a pioneer of electronic music in Australia -- he worked with Barry Conyngham, Keith Humble and Nicolas Lyon, and his piano piece "Svend's Tune" won the original tunes category at the Hobart Intervarsity Jazz Convention in 1968. In 1971 he contributed the opening sound collage for the classic Company Caine LP A Product Of A Broken Reality. Dunstan disappeared in the mid-1980s; it's thought that he may have committed suicide, but his body has never been found, so his fate remains unknown.
The Cover is VG, dark textured sleeve has rubbing, ringware (see pics), difficult to photograph, looks a bit better in the flesh, the Vinyl is EX-, a few hairlines.
