Originally recorded at CBS in San Francisco, California, Steve Miller for took his love for the Blues for this and its sister project, Book of Dreams.

In turning to mainstream pop rock, he became a huge star and developed the knack for delivering high-quality three-minute songs that were perfect for FM Radio.

The Album is linked by Miller’s fascination with electronic sounds sandwiched between the irresistible title track, (Fly Like An Eagle), The Bonnie & Clyde tale of Take The Money And Run - the riveting - Rockin’ Me - and the subdued - The Window - with its quirky lyric “ask my baby what she wants to be - she says a monkey in a tree.” His Baby replies “yhere’s nothing greater than love”, true enough.

Tracks included a number from the same sessions that produced the Fly Like An Eagle release, and the album featured the soon-to-be-famous flying horse design.

REVIEW OF TITLE -   This re-issue is pretty dang good. The packaging is what really impresses me. The inner sleeve, picture labels, and the jacket are as close to the original as you can get. The vinyl is a pinkish red color...but actually sounds better than most of the re-presses that have been done over the years. very quiet! This one's a winner for sure! If you don't want to fuss with finding a MINT original, this one will make you very happy...

The Steve Miller Band The Joker  180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP

 The Joker has prompted much discussion over the last four decades as to 'what is a pompatus of love?'. The word 'pompatus' was actually first used in the lyrics of Steve Miller's song and has since been defined as 'one who is pompous' or 'acted or done pompously (with pomp)'. Regardless of the meaning of the word, this album marked an era of significant change for the group as they abandoned their psychedelic oriented music. As they moved toward a more melodic, smooth rock/blues sound, they hit pay-dirt with their first solid commercial success. The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified Platinum in the United States.

The artwork for "The Joker" album has been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the "Top 100 Album Covers of All Time" - Ranked 83/100.
On June 11, 1974, Steve Miller's "The Joker" was certified Gold by the Record Industry Association of America.
