If we could award the "Most Powerful Garage/Heavy Metal/Psych album ever recorded" medal to a band or album, this one would be a mighty strong contender. According to Don Gallucci, who acted as Elektra-appointed Producer on Stooges’ recording sessions for this album, the band just entered the studio, tapes started rolling and that was it. Very little overdubbing and mixing was attempted. The band simply spewed out what appears to be a long-simmering vitriol and committed it to a disc more or less, as-is. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that, as he was recording this album, Iggy Pop was nothing if not desperate man. One can simply hear the existential angst pouring out from every groove and every song. The genuineness of this music simply cannot be questioned . This is Rock the way it was supposed to be in the beginning, and Rock that would have been, had we not had Bobby Vees, Pat Boones, Fabians and alike. The album comprises of seven songs, four on side (A) and three on side (B). The side (B) still, some twenty years after I heard this album for the first time, remains for me us the single most extreme form of Rock’n’Roll we ever encountered. Comparisons with other hermetic and uncompromising R&R cult classics don't do Stooges any justice. Maybe comparing this with John Lennon’s "Plastic Ono Band" album, just as Lennon was undergoing ‘Primal Scream’ therapy would be a good analogy. But we can’t think of much else that would be on the same level of intensity. This album is a category unto itself. Nothing else comes even close. Its a big cosmic vortex of pain, agony, anger, resentment, and misguided love. SURGEON GENERAL WARNING: This is not the album for the faint of heart: You are listening this at your own risk. Listening to Tubes, Sex Pistols or Dead Kennedys after this is like a vacation in Disneyland. The songs are: Down on the street - Loose - TV Eye - Dirt - 1970 - Fun house - L.A. Blues. A truly historic, earthshaking album, if ever we heard one.

***NOTE*** This is the original US-made gatefold cover of this album. All subsequent issues of this album came out with a plain, regular, single-slot cover. ALSO: we have heard many people claiming that this album originally came out on a red Elektra label with the large white "E" . Unfortunately, there is no such thing: RED-LABEL US pressing of "Funhouse" does not exist AND will continue to not exist!!!

(a)            CAUTION! The vinyl is only VERY GOOD (-)- TO VERY GOOD, with multiple, numerous, small scuffs and scratches which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with light and tolerable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and occasional pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded.

(b)            The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)             The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(e)             White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 40:1.

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD- / very good minus / (VG-).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The gatefold cover has partially split seams on 1 out of 4 "legs" of the cover (about 3 inches / 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters).

-         Cover has considerable ring wear

-         Cover has 2 small peel-off mark, probably from the careless removal of the price sticker.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the spine
