THIS ITEM COMES FROM THE INCREDIBLE, SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION WE ACQUIRED A WHILE AGO, IN WHICH ITEMS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BY THE OWNER FROM THE MID-'60s to THE MID-'70s WERE KEPT STILL SEALED IN A NEAR-LABORATORY, TIME-CAPSULE CONDITIONS AND IN PRACTICALLY CLIMATE- AND HUMIDITY- CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.  CONDITIONS OF SOME OF THESE ITEMS RANGE FROM IMPECCABLE TO TRULY UNBELIEVABLE. Taking a more somber approach to their light, folkish pop, the Sunshine Company's second LP offers more harmony, more reflections, but less hooks and whimsy than their first record. An apparent result of the societal upheavals of the time, the album notes tell us that the record was made in "a world so wrought and chained with meaningless ideas that it's dreams are merely pastel coloured nightmares." This is basically adult pop music dressed up in the hipster garb of the psychedelic generation. How else can you explain hippie versions of Les Baxter songs? In step with the times, the album has a light, country-rock influence apparent on the slight twang of "Reflections of an Angel" and Steve Gillette's "Darcy Farron." "Love, That's Where It Is" takes the more buoyant, string-laden approach of the first album and combines some fine fuzz guitar work to appeal to the kids. "I Can't Help But Wonder" is a cheery, doe-eyed look at love, replete with underwater vocal effects, and "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" jumps into some subdued acid rock. "If You Only Knew" is worth noting, as it a cover of Curt Boettcher's pre-Millennium band, the Ballroom. The final track, "Without Really Thinking" is a melodic, Baroque tale that holds together well and exits the album on a high note. There are some slightly addictive moments on the record (especially the opening "Look, Here Comes the Sun"), but unfortunately there is quite a bit of filler in between those moments.

Formed in Los Angeles, California, USA in February 1967, the Sunshine Company was a psychedelic pop band that made a minor impact during its two-year existence. The quintet consisted of Mary Nance (vocals), Douglas ‘Red’ Mark (guitar/vocals), Maury Mansea (guitarist/pianist/vocalist), Larry Sims (bass) and Merel Bregante (drums). As their name would suggest, the group specialized in lightweight ‘flower-power’ music and dressed the hippie role to the hilt.

Shortly after forming the group was signed to Imperial Records. Similar in style to the Mamas And The Papas and Spanky And Our Gang, the Sunshine Company did not share their commercial success. Their first single, ‘Happy’, made it to number 50 in the USA in July 1967, while the follow-up, ‘Back On The Street Again’, reached number 36 in October. One more single, ‘Look, Here Comes The Sun’, ended their chart run when it peaked at number 56 in February 1968. The same year they became a sextet with the inclusion of Dave Hodgkins (acoustic guitar).

The Sunshine Company recorded three albums during 1967-68, but only the first, Happy Is The Sunshine Company, reached the charts. By 1969, the group had dissolved, with Mark forming Redeye and Bregante joining Loggins And Messina. (Internet Source)

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS (WEAK) NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP  

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record, notably along the bottom seam),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams  (nothing significant)

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has two corners slightly dinged (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the back panel
