Description
1970 EMI/Columbia Records #1C 062-28 886 (Germany). A working definition of a cult band, Sweet Smoke are American Brooklyn-ites that gravitated to Germany, establishing a small but loyal following – with three releases (that I know of) filled with laid back, lightly progressive jazz/rock serenity. Just A Poke, their 1970 debut, features only two tracks, but both are filled with plenty of songs & directional twists, not just extended soloing. For instance, about nine minutes into “Baby Night,” the band eases into a vocal version of The Doors’ “The Soft Parade.” Later, in “Silly Sally,” you’re treated to a snazzy, phase-heavy drum solo. It's a hippie jazz/rock LP with no silent spaces to separate the tracks. Great wah-wah guitar breaks and drum solo 2nd side. Far-out.
Vinyl visually VG+ Side 1 / VG Side 2 but Test Played both sides and they both play VG(+) other than 1st 3 or 4 minutes side two. Jacket Strong VG(+) Nice laminated front cover/ lt wear on rear w/creasing and two tiny tears at insert edge - no splits
