Notes:

Formed by Nick Ronai and Joe Spibey, Swegas took its name from a plural form of the Anglo-Saxon word ‘sweg’, which means ‘sound’, ‘noise’, or ‘melody’. The band underwent over fifty personnel changes during its first year, but by 1970 a firm octet was established. The group recorded 3 albums during its short lifespan - the first of which went unreleased - before disbanding in late 1971. Music is great Afro Brassy Jazzy Progressive a cross between Assagai, Osibisia, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, T.N.T.H. and Blodwyn Pig...

Fantastic organ-psych with tons of wild percussion and a horn-section any soul/funk band could be proud of-listen to “Magic Pipe” with a free-blown sax-solo underlayed by a savage rite percussion galore with a cooking Hammond in the background! Sparse vocals only, long instrumental parts (or completely instro-tracks),great fuzz-guitars. Reminds me of two other albums recorded in 1970 by UK bands: Bob Downes Open Music/Electric City on the Vertigo/Swirl-label and The Greatest Show On Earth/The Going’s Easy on the Harvest-label.
