Description
This is an opportunity to bid for a rare Early Decca 1st pressing (or ED1) of this recording. It features Ernest Ansermet conducting L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Beethoven's 1st and 8th Symphonies. The label on the disc has a wide silver band just above the centre and a circular groove approx 1cm in from the edge (Wide Band with groove: WBg). On the rim of the label at 10/11 o’clock are printed the words “ORIGINAL RECORDING BY”. The matrix numbers engraved on the run-outs are: ZAL-6161-1G and ZAL-6162-1G. The centre label includes the text "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1964". The outer sleeve is the original, flip-back, cardboard laminated on the front. Disc and outer sleeve were both made in England. The inner sleeve is period Decca ffss printed paper with polythene liner.
The LP will be supplied with a protective 50g PVC sleeve and will be packaged in a Defenda LP mailer made of corrugated cardboard, with additional bubble-wrap (no charge for these).
Condition of Disc The disc is flat and the playing surfaces are glossy and clean. Centre labels are free of writing, sticky labels or stains; and show negligible signs of "squirreling" or spindle wear around the centre hole. After the disc has been wiped with a damp cloth, it plays beautifully, with negligible loss of high-end frequency and only very minor surface crackle in places. As with all discs of this age, it would probably benefit from machine-cleaning. Overall, I have graded the disc conservatively as 'Excellent minus' (Record Collector).Condition of Sleeve
There is only minor creasing, ring-wear or lifting of laminate and no writing, tears or sticky labels. The unlaminated back is a little grubby and there are minor signs of shelf/handling wear
