SXL 6321 BRAHMS Violin Sonatas Katchen / Suk WBg ED 1
Brahms Violin Sonatas Op.78, Op.100, Op.108.
Julius Katchen (piano) / Josef Suk (violin).Original UK pressed Decca Records stereo LP, SXL 6321.
Earliest wide band grooved black and silver label with "Made in England" perimeter lettering (first for this issue).
3W/4W matrix suffixes.
Vinyl in generally near mint condition. Just one or two light and wispy spider trace marks visible at centre spindle areas. Surfaces have a rich and bright gloss still and are free of any marks. Clearly a little and very carefully played LP. There is one fault however, but this is from manufacture and not mishandling. Right at the beginning of the LP, and visible to both sides is a small dot of a raised imperfection in the pressing. This measures around one tenth of an inch. It causes consecutive blips for much of its length on both sides. These are not marked ticks however, more ever so soft undulating blips which are audible, but at a very low volume. Else this is a very clean playing LP which is free of crackle or ticks and is not distorted or groove damaged.
Labels are clean and undefaced.
Original "blue dot" inner sleeve is very clean, unbrowned and without splits or tears. Some diagonal corner creasing.
Exterior sleeve close to EX. Bright and clean and free of sticker or pen marks. White rear is still very clean. Just a few half moons to laminate surface of front panel. Clean and unworn seams and tips and spine in excellent shape.
A Note On Grading:Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.
Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
