SYD BARRETT: Octopus/Golden Hair (Harvest HAR 5009 1969 UK DEMO COPY)
Here is a super rare opportunity to own one of the scarcest records in the entire Pink Floyd canon: Syd Barrett's 1969 solo single 'Octopus'. This is the even rarer DEMO with his name mis-spelled - BARRATT instead of BARRETT. This was later corrected on the commercially released version.
Pink Floyd/Syd devotees will know exactly what we are dealing with here as will all collectors of rare records in general. This one is a gem, though quite how Harvest/EMI thought Syd would storm the 1969 pop charts with this remains a mystery.

The 52-year old vinyl is in proper VG+ condition, bordering Excellent, just a few minor scuffs and hairlines but nothing serious and certainly nothing to cause jumps or skips upon play. Overall, the disc shines clean and clear.
The word "Mum" is written on the A side label (see pics) although. rather neatly, it is in the exact same colour as the Harvest logo! Otherwise the labels are bright and undimmed, free from any rips, wear or stickers. Both sides are stamped "Demo record Not For Sale" and, beneath the catalogue number, the proposed release date of 14th November 1969.
The Harvest company bag is also in terrific shape - no tears, fading, dirt or writing.
In the end, such an item needs little of the usual hype. This is the great Syd Barrett's only single released during his active career, produced by David Gilmour & Roger Waters and pressed up in the misguided hope that a genius/enigma might have a hit on his hands.
Pink Floyd collectors will know exactly what a great addition to their collections this would be and how unlikely another UK original Demo will surface any time soon. Good luck with your bids.
