Media Grade:  NM (OG deadstock copy, unsealed by me, pristine, peep the soundclips!)  
Sleeve Grade:  NM (unsealed by me, still in shrink, slight rip in the shrink where a big defunct 70's or 80's style record store price sticker was, otherwise superb, one of the best copies you can find, if you have seen this one, you know it tends to have bad cover damage.... Not this one! Beautiful, see photos!)

Brief Comments: The hardest to find lp on Hot Wax, it's one you never see, produced by legendary Ronald Dunbar, it's all originals by the group, led by Rynel Wynglas; imagine if Detroit Northern Soul met with Psychedelic tinged Sweet Soul brewed in a funky pot of that Witch's Brew, and that's what makes this not only quite unique, but track for track, this is definitely "Top 100 Soul / Funk lp", there's not a weak track on here, it's unusual for such a masterpiece debut, and no singles were released (there's a test pressing apparently that exists for "Bight City Lights"), it pretty much disappeared on release (Wynglas under his name would cut a funky 45 BBQ on another Buddah sub-label "Music Merchant" later that year). It was also the last lp released by Hot Wax, as the label was winding down, putting out a small last rush of 45's by Honey Cone, 100 Proof, Laura Lee, and oddly enough a Lee Charles 45 (I'd never even known it's existence until looking at the full Hot Wax catalogue), before shuttering.
Since Satisfaction Unlimited was the last "first release" in, it seems Hot Wax decided to not even release a single, and use their last allocated resources for 45's by already released artists (it seems Lee Charles, due to a string of prior 45 releases on a few major labels, had been recorded around the same time, probably wanting to keep reputational will, after all Hot Wax was a Buddah sub-label, they did Charles release), Winford Terry, fellow group member, producer along with Dunbar, would decamp to Invictus, to write for the Barrino Brothers ultra rare 1973 lp (ironically, that also was a "one-off", we have the OG in this sale!).
It's a record that makes tons of Rare Groove Lists, several tracks have landed on rare soul/funk compilations, and it's one that a lot of deep diggers know the existence of, but never see a copy, and to my knowledge it's not, or hasn't been on streaming services, there's the full album on YouTube, but only a few isolated tracks; basically it's one deep diggers are always so curious about, once you hear the album, it begins to dawn fairly quickly that it's one of the best (similar to The Montclairs Paula lp, before it's well-deserve exposure in more recent years), Dunbar (of Holland-Dozier-Dunbar, that one!), was a Detroit cat, and very familiar with Norman Whitfield's sound, as well as classic "Northern Soul" Motown, which gives it this dimension of Northern Soul, Psychedelic Soul, but it's also Sweet Soul, and plenty funky! 
Interestingly, it seems to have been rare enough, to avoid even Pete Rock, or Buckwild's purview in the 90's, it's only been sampled once in 2018 by Pan Amsterdam...... There's several "Donuts" like tracks I could see Dilla having a field day with, intros that have a raw gritty yet polished feel of a DJ Muggs "Cypress Hill" or RZA early-mid 90's sound. It's a gold mine.
But beyond that, it's one of those perfect records, it is bewildering how this one isn't far more widely known, I suppose given it's genuine insane scarcity, rarity (counting other Buddah sub-labels of the time, I've seen Baby Huey's on Curtom, Sixto Rodriguez on Sussex, the rarest best last 100 Proof In Soul lp on Hot Wax, Smith Connection on Music Merchant, at stores, on walls, or record shows), I've never seen a single copy of this one. It's a cult classic in Japan, and the UK, first being reissued on CD by P-Vine in 1997 Japan, with several subsequent pressings, including an LP reissue, and CD reissues in the UK, with an lp reissue on Demon records, but no US reissue of any kind..... In talking with my Japanese diggin' friends, it's a huge want over there, legitimately scarce, if you do see one at a shop in Shibuya, buy it, it won't last another day.... 
It has several Japan Only write-ups, in Japanese collector guides, zines, to universal acclaim, over the years, but no one Stateside seems to have given it the detailed long review.....
I would post mine here, Heaven knows I practically do that already on a lot, but it's 8 word doc. pages (1.5 spaced, not quite double), still in rough draft form 2nd stage, and I want to submit it to Wax Poetics (fingers crossed folks, I've wanted to contribute for years, waiting for what felt like the perfect album, it has been mentioned in the context of a Holland-Dunbar-Dozier article, but I'm hoping it'll make "Re: Discovery"), which is going to require some pairing down I imagine, but if printed here first, I feel that could be an issue, and not making the magazine Issue, would be an issue! Haha, but forreal, it would be a dream come true.....
Selling it isn't easy, there's a great chance I won't see an original again, let alone a deadstock minty OG copy that I unsealed myself.... It's also just so...magical. Every play, front to back, the kind of enchantment, where when each side ends, it almost seems like a dream, I got HQ Wav. Rips at the very least, and a dear friend in Tokyo is mailing me a copy of the P-Vine CD as a gift, but again...still! 
You're in for one of the last of the relatively big label "mysteries", ultra whale for early 70's soul/funk lp's, and if it isn't a 5/5, 10 / 10, all the stars album for you? I'll gladly return/refund in full, no questions asked. There's few times where a sort of certainty is this clear, where I know after you hear it in full, the big question is going to be "How the F*** is this Grail level lp on a major distribution, still in 2026, a Mystery? *(At Least in the US, folks in Japan know, the UK crowd digs it, but for them it's top "Crossover Northern Soul", a fluid term, there is excitement, but not the same Awe-Inspiring it has in Japan, or US collectors who did somehow manage to find one!)

For our record grading, we stand by the merits outlined in the scale below, anything VG or below will have a detailed explanation in brackets next to the grade.
For sleeves, we will mention anytime there is split, or defect not visible in the photos in brackets next to the grade, otherwise we refer to the photos for the merit of the grade. Of course any questions, concerns, are always welcome :) 
Our media grading scale is as follows: [*Quick note, our VPI is still in storage on the other side of the US, we do brush clean many  items carefully, but we have to prioritize, we won't leave anyone stranded with a filthy record, only "filthy" good! We don't factor dust particles into the grading]
NM = Essentially a pristine album, like new, rarely used.
EX = Under bright light if there is any scuffs or mark, which will be inaudible, most collectors and sellers would tend to consider it closer to NM, EX is also the grade others might call VG++ under the same level of conservative scrutiny.
VG+ = More then a small handful of scuffs, light marks, nothing feelable, will have high-gloss, a thoroughly enjoyable copy that may only have tiny moments of barely perceptible surface noise overpowered by the music. Our VG+ will satisfy the vast majority of collectors as a nice keeper copy, as collector's ourselves for nearly two decades, this grade is aimed to be a great keeper. Note if say the record has a light DNAP warp, but otherwise is NM, we will automatically put it to VG+ and detail that. Another scenario is if a copy plays at a solid EX, but visually is VG, the composite grade will be VG+, and detailed as such.
VG = More hairlines, more marks, maybe a few visible scratches, no more then two feelable scratches (which automatically lowers to VG-), there likely will be surface noise, but will play through, still being an enjoyable copy, the audio quality will satisfy most collector's (the golden rule: if it doesn't satisfy us, it won't be VG), if a record is otherwise EX, but has a slight momentary skip, where 99% of the record is EX, we will note that, and put it at VG. Usually will retain a nice gloss.
VG- = More Scratches than VG, surface noise will jump out more, it be overpowered for longer stretches, or compete with the music in places, it will likely play all the way through on most turntables, a copy that you can still get a decent play enjoyment from.
G+ = Lots of scratches, deeper ones, surface noise now mostly overpowers or competes with the music. It may skip in some places. We don't tend to sell G+ copies, unless the rarity is so great, and that will be precisely detailed.
Thrashed = Pretty much a "Theoretical Grade" for us, it be for all intents & purposes virtually unplayable, it would be for display purposes, or perhaps if you needed the cover but not the record. It's "theoretical" because so far we haven't sold or identified anything intended to sell at this bottom level.

We have it set to 5 day shipping / handling time, as a just in case, typically about 98.7% of our orders are shipped out the day of payment (first day the post office is open), with the vast majority being the second day. We'll message on the extraordinary off-chance if doesn't go out on Tuesday (our auctions mostly ending on Saturdays, Sundays), with the reason and day it will go out, so far that's only happened once on a giant order, and all was well.
